Howard Blanch - Distribution Infrastructure


Howard is one of the best known and most highly regarded individuals within the UK energy sector and has been at the forefront of the competitive supply industry since its inception.

With over 30 years experience in the energy supply industry and an impressive track record of success, Howard’s extensive knowledge make him uniquely placed to provide energy supply and distribution advice to businesses of all types and sizes.

Originally trained by NEI Reyrolle as an Electrical Engineer, Howard joined Northern Electric as Industrial Development Engineer where he was responsible for leading a team dedicated to helping the North East region’s industrial and commercial companies gain the benefit of improved utilisation of electro technology to achieve greater efficiency and productivity.

He went on to become Head of New Connections where he was responsible for evaluating customer requirements, quoting for and implementing new and increased supplies to industry and commerce, which also involved advising on the design, cost and implementation of HV & LV distribution systems within customer’s premises.

Shortly after privatisation Howard moved on to become Northern Electric’s Tariffs & Pricing Manager where he was responsible for setting tariff prices for all customers, setting distribution use of system charges, and pricing and negotiating supply contracts in the evolving competitive market. This led to Howard’s move to become Northern Electric’s Energy Sales Manager, and together with his team of Account Managers they turned Northern Electric into one of the most successful companies in the UK bringing the benefits of competition in electricity and gas to customers throughout the UK.

Prior to Northern Electric being taken over by npower, Howard moved to Southern Electric as Energy Sales Manager and was involved in the merger of Southern Electric and Scottish Hydro Electric, the acquisition of South Wales Electric (SWALEC), and Atlantic Energy & Gas. He became Scottish & Southern Energy’s Group Energy Sales Manager responsible for sales to Major Business, Small to Medium Enterprises and Domestic Sales throughout the UK where under his stewardship he turned Scottish & Southern Energy into the second largest supplier in the competitive energy market.

Howard is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced people in the Energy Supply & Distribution Industry and since joining the Square One Utilities team in 2008, he now uses his extensive industry knowledge to deliver undoubted benefits to our clients.
