Ongoing monitoring and benchmarketing

Monitoring and Targeting (M&T) and is the foundation of successful energy management. Benchmarking against accepted standards or best practice allows ongoing performance measurement and can identify waste.

Savings of between 5% and 20% are considered achievable through effective M&T.
M&T involves the collection, interpretation and reporting of information on utility use. The aim is to understand utility consumption better and thereby cut consumption, spot and correct waste, and of course cut costs.

Implementing an M&T system requires three discrete tasks to be undertaken:

  • Data Collection
  • Analysis
  • Reporting

Each component is dependant on the others. Without a data collection system there is no information on which to perform analysis and reporting. Analysis is vital to interpret the raw data, and reporting must summarise the key items and ensure action takes place. Reports assist you to monitor and compare your energy usage, and hence identify and rectify any waste or inefficiencies.
